Per new allegations from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a clemency request for review by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a source provided information indicating the inmate is preparing the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been given preferential conditions at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the House judiciary committee, stated in a official statement that the prison’s warden was assisting the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for executive mercy.

The exact content of the clemency request are unclear, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her living area, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for Maxwell and her visitors.

The visits reportedly involve a designated private space for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Maxwell’s visitors were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the potential danger and chance of unsupervised contact.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was provided directions about who she should tell her associates to call and how staff would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents promptly, she reportedly employed the warden as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement states that those writing to her would send files directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and provide them back to the official to digitize and send to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Reported

Other privileges allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to the convict is not something he has considered,” the representative added.

Context and Developments

Recently, it was reported that she told friends and family in electronic messages that she was more content at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, she was transferred from a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most inmates are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as Donald Trump's private attorney.

That interview came as the administration was facing mounting pressure to disclose additional files related to the ongoing probe and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Congressional Response

Through the statement, Raskin also announced that he had sent a letter to Trump, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and called on the president to deny Maxwell’s commutation request.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” Raskin wrote in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with federal law enforcement officials waiting on her every need, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for the convict with the official or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the move or special conditions in detention, and whether Maxwell, her attorneys, family or representatives have made any commitments to the President or his attorneys.

Raskin has asked for a response to the inquiries by 24 November.

Last month, the US supreme court declined to hear an petition from the convict on her trafficking verdict.
