Soderbergh tests his directorial skills with this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of the spirit. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their fresh home, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of aware of the ghostly being, and the entity appears defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema

The Black Phone Horror
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a follow-up. Set in 1970s Colorado, several child abductions has made the youth on edge. After Finney gets captured by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone in the room continues to ring, with eerie communicators offering help, and the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen could save him. An effective horror. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation regarding the shamed televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple set about capitalizing on the people's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, overdone appearance and bad faith, however Chastain achieves to present Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, the Film4 channel
