Tragic News on Cargo Plane Crash: Death Toll Rises to 13

The total count of victims due to the freight aircraft which caught fire and crashed has now climbed to 13, according to official statements.

Mayor's Statement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I received word of a 13th person that lost their life as a outcome of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” wrote the city mayor in a online message. “My heart is with the families, associates and peers of all who were taken in this week’s calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Casualties Confirmed

A release from the company named the officers aboard the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to all employee who has been touched and everyone in our local area – assisting you and making sure you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the firm’s message read.

Probe Findings

Government investigators revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing ignited and an engine fell off shortly after liftoff from the airfield, leading to the aircraft to fall and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB has said it is probing the aircraft’s service record, that was in Texas for fixes a period prior to the incident.

Flight tracking information showed the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was there in that city,” remarked an investigator on later, not giving a precise date range. “We will examine every piece of repairs that was performed, from the repair visit, straight to the date of the journey.”

Retrieval of Critical Items

The audio device and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was found on the tarmac.

The devices – called data containers – were constructed to endure accident forces and severe temperatures from blazes, and they looked to be in one piece when located within the crash debris. Authorities plan on analyzing data from the recorders.

Jet’s final recorded information showed an elevation of that level and a velocity of 210 mph prior to the impact.

Maintenance Record

Per aviation authority documents from that date, a fissure on a structural piece inside the center wing fuel tank needed maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which said it provides airframe maintenance for the carrier’s jet and runs a maintenance center in Texas, chose not to comment, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.

Operations Restart

In the meantime, the facility activities resumed that evening with its Next Day Air or night sort procedure, spokesperson Jim Mayer stated. The three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also reopened.

The distribution hub in the city is the organization’s most significant. The hub employs in excess of 20,000 people in the locality, handles three hundred aircraft daily and sorts more than 400,000 parcels per hour.

Public Support

A memorial was held on the night of that date by the regional Teamsters Union, which acts for employees at the aviation hub, the organization’s primary freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for staff, started the memorial with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the estimated moment of the crash two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the leader told the group of 200. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to each of those who we have mourned.”
